Nemo Link® will build the converter station on the former Richborough Power Station site, which now forms part of the Richborough Energy Park proposals. In March 2012 the three cooling towers and chimney were demolished.
It is intended that the framework of the former turbine hall of the Richborough Power Station will be reused to form part of the converter station building. Some smaller ancillary buildings will also be constructed to house essential equipment.
The converter station will be built on a green field site next to the Electrabel’s power plant in the Herdersbrug industry zone in Bruges.
The connection point between the converter station and the existing Belgian transmission system will be located at the Gezelle substation. This substation is a part of the Stevin project and will be newly constructed and finished by the end of 2017.
